an...idea

i think i have a semi-interesting-maybe-exciting-and-workable idea for a series of paintings.

lemme tell ya...it's been a while since i've had a semi-interesting-maybe-exciting idea. and i'm putting it out there, in writing, to make it SO.

now to overcome the fear-of-failure-crippling-anxiety-mental-monster-of-lameness.

also, i need to buy a bunch of new paints.

itch i can't scratch

It's been months now since i've done any artwork. i miss painting so much i could cry...i feel the need all over me, like a rash under my skin that i can't get rid of (cue jokes about my hygiene). Lord please help me find somewhere to be able to paint again soon...and feel free to give me a kick in the butt to get me moving.

so, i just bit the bullet and cleared my desk for art and painting use ONLY.

drawings, watercolors, oils...! so many to accomplish it overwhelms me! the places, the things, the faces...

now all i have to do is find my easel.

every time i do a new piece of art work, i feel like i'm learning to draw (or paint) all over again. like i'm figuring it out for the very first time. i suppose, in a way, i am. and though it can be frustrating...i hope that feeling never entirely goes away.

starting something all over again--there is nothing more frustrating or more freeing. in this case, my commission i worked on all weekend. here's to a new beginning...

visages

a wonderful and fascinating thing i've found in my experience is the act of drawing a person's portrait as a way of getting to know them. as one who is in love with human beings and their quirks and passions--but often too shy to actually talk to them--it is sometimes the only way i know how to be intimate with people. to study their faces...in all their beauty and imperfection...likely by the time i am done i will know the subtleties and curves more than even they do.

there is nothing else like it in the world.
